AOP CRUNCH: Are curated audiences the future of premium publishing?
It feels appropriate that the title for our last AOP CRUNCH of 2025 was a question. Despite curation being second only to AI in this year’s industry discourse, much of how it works, whether it works, and who benefits remains unanswered. We invited publishers, agencies, and vendors to steer us all closer to a conclusion on curation, but it is clear that the scaffolding is not quite ready to come down and reveal a consensus. Curation remains a broad approach rather than a specific technical solution, and below you will find a range of perspectives on its potential and its pitfalls.

Digital Publisher Revenues continued to climb in Q2 2025, data from AOP and Deloitte reveals
The latest Digital Publishers’ Revenue Index (DPRI) from the Association of Online Publishers (AOP) and Deloitte reveals more solid revenue growth, with total Q2 2025 revenues of £165.40 million, up by 3.43% year-on-year (YoY). However, the data suggests that revenue growth isn't evenly distributed, with only slightly more than half of respondents (54%) reporting growth in their revenues during Q2 2025.

The AOP’s response to Google’s Site Reputation Abuse Policy: the wrong solution to a real problem
When Google announced its Site Reputation Abuse Policy last year, the AOP’s recommendation was to pause its rollout until publishers had been consulted on its criteria and its impact on commercial revenues. At the time, the policy barred third parties from running commercial pages on publisher websites with little or no oversight, to “piggyback” off the search reputation of the primary domain.

Q1 2025 Saw Largest Increase in Digital Publisher Revenues Since Pandemic, AOP and Deloitte Reveal
The latest Digital Publishers’ Revenue Index (DPRI) from the Association of Online Publishers (AOP) and Deloitte reveals the largest year-on-year (YoY) revenue growth in the post-pandemic period, with total revenues increasing by 9.27% compared to Q1 2024. With the exception of display advertising and classifieds, all revenue categories showed significant growth, resulting in total Q1 2025 revenues of £166.94 million.
