Taboola data shows articles about the Winter Games received 12 million pageviews over past three months
25th February 2026: Winter Olympics double-gold medalist Matt Weston has won significantly more readership attention than his fellow Team GB athletes, according to Taboola.
Data from Taboola Newsroom, which captures readership behaviour from across the platform’s national publisher network, shows that articles about Weston attracted more than 650,000 pageviews over the past three months – spiking around the Olympics.
As the first member of Team GB to win a medal at this year’s Winter Games, Weston received more pageviews than any other British medalists:
Weston won two gold medals for skeleton racing events, including one in a team competition with his fellow British racer Tabby Stoecker.
The Winter Olympics themselves received more than 12 million pageviews over the past three months, with skiing the most read-about sport (2.5m pageviews). This year’s Winter Olympics have been the most watched ever by British viewers, with an unprecedented 83 million streams across the BBC and 26.3 million viewers tuning in to the TV coverage.
As with any sporting event, drama and success go hand in hand. Articles about US alpine skier Lindsey Vonn received 4.1 million pageviews from UK readers, after the athlete suffered a devastating leg injury while competing in the women’s downhill competition.
“After over a week without a medal, Britain had begun to feel restless and downhearted about its performance at the Winter Olympics. Then Matt Weston comes along and wins two Gold Medals in a row. It was inevitable that he’d attract high readership figures,” said David Struzzi, Communications Lead at Taboola. “But readers also love drama and following athletes’ emotional journeys, and publishers need to get the right balance between success stories and heartbreak when reporting on big sporting events like this.”
